10 GENERAL QUESTIONS TO CHRISTIANITY
© Carlos Padilla, February 2023
1.- Why the world is going crazy and mental problems are increasing?
The increase of mental health disorders amongst young people is rising. The many causes include passing through the pandemic, the social crisis of values, the influence of social media, the lack of purpose, or the difficulty to find a job and a future, etc. The world is going crazy before us and it is difficult to help many, or even ourselves. The panorama of lack of emotional stability, geopolitical uncertainty, a society without a stable wellbeing for the vast majority, the lack of justice, the increase of criminality, wars and rumours of war, precarious jobs and an uncertain future; are dangerous times (2 Timothy 3:1-7). The Bible, in its prophecies foretells the coming of a time of apostasy, of a final world antichrist and separated from God, before the return of the Lord Jesus Christ – Yahshua at the end of time to establish His eternal Kingdom, to which we are all called if we have faith in His work on the Cross, for His grace and love for us. “Let no one deceive you by any means; for that day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God” (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4). 2.- How to be happy and enjoy life in the present world?
Before the present crazy world we must have faith and hope, focus in simple things like a walk on the beach, on the country or on the mountain with our loved ones, with friends, or a lunch with family, to read the Bible, pray, sing praise with other Christians in the Church which lifts the soul to God, or sharing the gospel with others. These are things that most of us can do and are affordable in an easy way, and they are the more enriching. If we add to this small list the trust in God, which provides us the greatest source of faith and hope, it is difficult to find better ways of enjoying life. Finally, the most important to be happy is to know Yahshua, our Lord Jesus, for He will soon come to establish His eternal Kingdom. The door to the Kingdom of God is open every day for all those who come to faith in His work on the Cross for us, the salvation for eternal life that we cannot achieve, but that Jesus Christ has achieved for us. 3.- How to get to the end of the month?
If we follow the advice in Hebrews 13 of not being greedy and to be happy with what we have now, we will be able to avoid wanting material things and irrelevant desires that we are offered by credit and can make us to ruin. One of the main clues is not to use credit cards with delayed payment, for they abuse with enormous interest rates that the unconscious client forgets behind until the debt is so large that he struggles. To conform ourselves with what we have now, does not mean that we cannot improve, or prosper, but try to buy when it is really necessary, not by whim or for pleasure when finances are not available. First one should separate a part for God, and to help the family and the poor, which is the best investment (Proverbs 19:17), pay loans, food, rent or house, medical insurance, car or transport, mobile and internet, the needs for living, and if there is left, save a bit, and with the rest enjoy the simple things of life with your loved ones. If you find yourself in a situation of debt, seek help from brothers who are experts in finances under a plan of God. (Hebrews 13:5-16). Read a Bible Study at: https://www.yahshua.net/digital-gospel/
4.- How to find a good job and the purpose of my life?
Although the question: Why am I here or what is my purpose in life? Has a philosophical character, it goes hand in hand with the search of the ideal job. The Jews usually recommend to have a profession and a job, in case things go wrong, to always have a financial exit. On the other hand I think that our view of our job is important. It is curious to find that some see it as a punishment, while others see it as a way to honour and glorify God. Max Webber taught that ethical and prosperous work is a way to honour God, and on that the Protestant economy was based. However the economy of Catholic influence sees work as a punishment. But we can conclude that sometimes it is enough to value the job we have, to change the perspective and give thanks to God for having it, and to work as if it was for God, for at the end of the day He sees everything and the intention of our heart. Other times we must change, seek, talk to contacts, ask for recommendations, to know how to sell ourselves. But no matter the case, the first thing is to pray to God and ask for His blessing in the name of Jesus Christ, His guide and wisdom, to be able to learn which natural gifts we have, what we know how to do, what we like to do and do well, and to be realistic accepting that which can be done in the part of the world where we live. 5.- How to find true love, wife of husband forever?
We could answer this question with another one: Are you ready to commit yourself for ever, or are you only wanting to try and then decide? “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh (Genesis 2:24). Read the story of Abraham when searching for a wife for Isaac in (Genesis 24). “Who can find a virtuous wife?” (Proverbs 31:10-12). Read a Bible Study at: https://www.yahshua.net/famichurch.htm
6.- How can I protect and educate my children in the present world which promotes abortion?
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverb 22:6). As well as training, teaching, love, confidence, we must achieve that they trust God, that they know Him, and that they receive Jesus as their saviour and protector. When they grow, they will have to decide for themselves, and talk to God and receive Christ Yahshua in their hearts when they recognize themselves as sinners and needed of salvation here and for eternal life. Our prayer as parents is basic, even when they do not obey, or separate from the good way. Today and always, our love must include discipline, which does not mean to always be strict, but always accept that when we have to say ¡no! it will hurt us, but it will be the best for our children, and they will not thank us for it now, but many years after. But the most important is to show them our love, the opposite of abortion, that they can trust us, but above all trust God. Read a Bible Study at: https://www.yahshua.net/famichurch.htm
7.- How to take care of our elders if we have no time or resources?
With love, patience, compassion, mercy, being longsuffering and accepting that they once changed our nappies, spent sleepless nights, suffered when they worried, the brought us up better or worse, the best they knew. When there is neither time nor resources we must ask for help to our family first and to the brethren in the church after, maybe with time, or resources, but prayer is very powerful. Some have no family, or spouse, nor adult children responsible, nor brothers who can help taking care of them. Let us pray and watch to help, and also pray for those about to experience it, that they start planning in their heart what they will need and start preparing themselves for this regard, not with the world’s proposal of euthanasia, instead of helping elder and sick parents, their annihilation is proposed, excused behind avoiding their suffering, instead of palliative care, love and compassion. “Honour your father and mother, which is the first Commandment with promise” (Ephesians 6:2-4). 8.- How to love our neighbour, help the poor and do good works?
The love for the neighbour emanates from the love of God, if we seek a true and genuine love that does not depend of human weakness, with compassion and mercy. That love is God given through His Spirit to all those who love Him and pray for it, and for their neighbour. Yahshua is the best example of love there is, the one of God for us, giving His life for us on the cross to pay for our sins, to fulfil the justice, make us just and worthy of living in His kingdom. This way God offers us, through faith, eternal life by His grace. We will start by loving God in a personal relationship with Him through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit in us, in prayer. For this we will receive His plan of our salvation in our heart, receiving Christ, His Son, as Lord and Saviour. We continue by loving our own family. Many times we see some who want to do good works, but their family is needed, so their needs must be covered first, of all types, to then be able to go to the poor and do good works, whether they are locals or immigrants, because, what if we have to emigrate tomorrow, how would we want to be treated in the country of destination? “Love your neighbour like your selves” Prayer for those we love is a daily need that changes lives and hearts. (Matthew 22:36:40). Read a Bible Study at: https://www.yahshua.net/virtue.htm
9.- Where to find good and reliable friends?
The best friends are those who before loving us, love Christ, in such a way that we can also love them like Yahshua requested in the New Testament, that we would love one another as He had loved us, laying down His life for us (John 13:34-35). To love a friend like that, must be a friend of Jesus. The friends of the world, those who are interested in us for some benefit, are not true friends. Our best friends will be, the Lord Jesus –Yahshua, our wife or husband, our children if God allows, our parents, in the same way, but those who are in Christ, our true brothers in the faith. Those are not found in the worldly places, but in places of blessing, or in the Church, those who go to places of good and healthy things of life, and they are few, that is why we must take care of them. 10.- Is it possible today to receive healing, understanding, emotional help and compassion?
Sometimes the tests of life go further than we are able to carry, and our faith is challenged. It is there where more than guide, more than theory or words, we need people who will support us, who know and have lived similar experiences and can have compassion and mercy. The emotional help around us is scarce; it is very difficult to find the adequate, sometimes even amongst professionals in psychology, or pastors. But our loved ones sometimes will be our best support, and others the worst. What calls the attention is to see that many, who live separated from God, blame Him of their problems and of all evil things. God never fails to those who trust in Him: “Yahweh is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him” (Nahum 1:7), is the good Father who can heal us, physically, emotionally and spiritually, understands us, helps, and is Father of mercy, because as the Bible says: “For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment” (James 2:13). Read a Bible Study at: https://www.yahshua.net/Jairus.htm
CONCLUSION
Today we have seen 10 general questions to Christianity. No doubt there are many more, and with that, with the grace of God, we will deal with in following blocks of questions, existential and philosophical, prophetical, and of the concerns of today in the XXI century, etc. But without doubt these are the main ones because it is about our beloved ones, our neighbours and people we talk to, so they may know the message of God for all, that the Salvation has already been provided and that if we believe in God and in His plan of Salvation in Jesus Christ we have eternal life in the Kingdom of God, being that once we know God our true live begins.
The teachings that the Lord Jesus taught us in the Beatitudes in (Matthew 5), are the guide to reply to many general questions that we have dealt with today, but these are only a small list to help us answer our neighbour in their search for God: “And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying: Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.” The Bible answers all our questions because it is God Himself who has revealed it for us. Amen!
