"...That was the true Light, which lighteth every
man that cometh into the world...."
John 1:9.
Jesus Christ made
God known, Whom no one ever saw; as the begotten Son, who is in the Father's
bosom. This is another of the
Biblical prophecies
that fulfill in
Jesus Christ. But, as much as we know that He came to the world, was born,
died on the Cross, raised from the dead on the third day and ascended again
to the right hand of the Father, the question is why? Why did God become
Man?
Every year,
Christmas brings the celebration of the birth of Jesus, the Son of God. We
Christians know that Jesus Christ died for our sins so that, if in truth and
of heart, with faith we receive Him as Savior, according to the
Gospel
we may enjoy the Kingdom of God that He has promised to those who wait
for Him.
But the answer to
the question goes further than knowing the work of Christ. The question is
related, not only with the fact that Jesus Christ came to the world and went
back to the Father, but it is related to the reason why God has to come to
the world, if there was no other way to save us, and what pushed God to
allow
–without
providing another solution–
that His Son, holy and perfect, became Man and gave His life on the Cross.
GOD BECAME MAN
Most people that
don’t know Jesus Christ, think that to be well with God –if they believe in
Him, or if it matters to them their relationship with Him, or if they
believe that it is possible- it is enough with what is known as the
“balance” between good and bad deeds, certain moral, or good actions, good
deeds, that may compensate the evil we do, the sins, a situation that today
is best known as corruption, in general and personal. Some proud think they
are good, and that their moral is enough before God; to those Jesus calls
rich, and no one that trusts in richness will inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.
The more advanced
and knower's, in part, of the Word of God, may get to understand God’s
moral, they most high, that which He will use to judge us is concentrated in
God’s Law, given to Moses in the Old Testament, which starts with the 10
Commandments, and that in fulfilling these, God’s favor can be found. Others
only seek God as the great genius of the lamp to grant them their wishes.
And like this a long etc. of human thinking, whether materialistic,
relativist, superstitious or religious. None the less some truly seek Him,
despite their sins, and do not know what to do, because even when they
repent they keep sinning.
This is the basic
exposure from which we start. But this will neither provide us with the
answer of why God became Man. The answer could well come from the fact that
God did it, for His wisdom and omnipotence is unquestionable. But for all we
must find the definitive answer in an intelligible way for the mind, mostly
for the non believer.
On the other hand,
if God’s Law was corruptible, as we see in society, in governments,
kingdoms, those in power and in the citizens, it would be easy to find
tolerance or some adaptation. But no, God’s Law comes from His just and holy
soul, and it is not corruptible, for the only way is to fulfill it to be
with Him in the Kingdom of Heaven for eternity. But, if no body can fulfill
the Law (613 Commandments of the Torah in the Pentateuch), then what chance
do we have? Non, condemnation and hell, because every one dies. But man does
not stop his existence after death, and the Bible itself says that God
placed eternity in the heart of man, Ecclesiastes 3:11. Then?
Before this
situation, God's heart could not do more than to love us all that even under
the slavery of the flesh, a mind that reveals, and in a world and
surrounding contrary to God, We would love Him, even without being able to
fulfill His Law. This situation was not bearable, but neither is injustice.
This is why the Father and the Son made a covenant for Salvation, before the
foundation of the world, because Jesus Christ offered Himself for all of us
before creation 1Peter 1:20. The gift of faith is in deed a gift, that we
could say is "of Christmas" for those who love God even in their sins, even
knowing themselves sinners, and without the power to be holy. These receive
a gift called faith. Faith does not come from wisdom, as Gnostics proclaim,
it is not fruit of the intellect nor of philosophies, but of a humble heart
that seeks God, who gives it. Faith makes man receive Jesus Christ as
Savior, once hi has recognized himself unable to sanctify for himself,
neither by good deeds, which are to be made out of love for our neighbor, as
proof of our faith. Therefore, when receiving Jesus Christ in our heart as
Savior, He fills us with the Holy Spirit, Who gives us the power to live a
holy life. And man, therefore, has no other way to come to God's heart but
through Jesus Christ.
...For
there is
one God, and one mediator
between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
1Timothy 2:5.
This inspired Text
of Paul to his beloved Timothy, shows the great revelation of God's
Salvation, and Him who is the way to God. But also when he wrote to the
Philippians, he explained with this one, the key Text, how Jesus Christ did
what He did to save us, and how and why God became Man.
...Let
this mind be in you, which was also in Christ
Jesus: 6Who, being in the form of God, thought it not
robbery to be equal with God: 7But made himself of no
reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the
likeness of men: 8And being found in fashion as a man, he
humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the
cross. 9Wherefore God also hath highly
exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in
heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is
Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:6.
It is a real mystery
to us, but God loved us and made it happen becoming Man:
...And without controversy great is the mystery of
godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified
in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles,
believed on in the world, received up into glory.
1Timothy 3:16.
Here we find the
Holy Trinity in action. God the Father was manifested in the flesh of His
Son Jesus Christ. And the Spirit justified God. Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
And the reply to why God became Man is because He loved us, loved us to the
point of becoming Man in Jesus Christ His begotten Son, His beloved, and
allow that He would be humiliated to the Cross, so that we would not have to
face the judgment of eternal condemnation, separated from God, which had to
be fulfilled, because God is just and the unfulfillment of His Devine Law,
implies death and eternal hell. And this for some seams something unreal,
but The Bible, The Word of God assures it, something that Jesus Christ gave
testimony of, as the apostles and prophets.
...Say
to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold,
your God will come with
vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save
you. Isaiah
35:4. See also Isaiah 40:3 and chap. 53 complete.
...But
thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands
of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come
forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings
forth have been from of old, from
everlasting.
Mica 5:2.
...And
after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth
them up into an high mountain apart, 2And
was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his
raiment was white as the light. 3And, behold, there
appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. 4Then
answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if
thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for
Moses, and one for Elias. 5While he yet spake, behold,
a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice
out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well
pleased; hear ye him. 6And when the disciples heard
it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. 7And
Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise,
and be not afraid. 8And when they
had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
Matthew 17:1.
...Whose
are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came,
who is over all, God blessed for ever.
Amen. Romans
9:5.
...For
in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead
bodily.
Colossians 2:9.
This is possibly the
most explicative verse written by an apostle in the entire Bible, where we
can see all the attributes of God in the Son, in Him who is the essence and
the manifestation of God. But there are other evidences, definitive proofs
that Jesus was God made flesh. His character, Luke 18:16. His holy life,
Matthew 17:2. His control of powers of nature, Mark 4:35. His doctrine, John
8:6. His miracles, Luke 18:41. His healings, Matthew 14:36. Resurrection of
the dead, Mathew 9:24. Finally His own resurrection, John 20 and ascension
before the apostles, Acts 1:9.
...Looking
for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing
of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14Who
gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify
unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Titus 2:13.
...Who
being the brightness of his glory, and the
express image of his person, and
upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had
by himself purged our sins,
sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
4Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by
inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
Hebrews 1:3.
...Without
father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days,
nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a
priest continually.
Hebrews 7:3.
...For
God so loved
the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16.
CONCLUSION
Yes, friends and
brothers, the Lord did not have another alternative because He loves, and
loves until the end. God does not get tired of searching us because He loves
us, even though sometimes we think He is far, does not hear us, that does
not care for us, really He is always by our side, but many do not talk to
Him, do not read His Word. If you have not yet received Him, if you have not
yet believed in the work of Jesus Christ on the Cross, if you have not yet
understood to what point was important to avoid going to eternal hell, the
action of God becoming Man, and of giving His life for you and for me, must
make us think.
Today, Christmas
time, open your heart and tell God that you receive His Son Jesus Christ as
your Savior, believe in Him, Thank God for becoming Man, for sending His Son
to die in your place, because if you receive Him, beware that you and your
house are saved, Acts 16:31. God loves you. God is searching you. Receive
Him today and change your life for ever. This is the best Christmas present.
Share it with your loved ones.
...In
the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and
without him was not any thing made that was made... ...He was in the world,
and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not... ...But as many
as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even
to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the
will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14And the
Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us.
Text from John 1. Amen.
