10 SCIENTIFIC QUESTIONS TO CHRISTIANITY

1.- Did Jesus Christ create the universe and the life that exists?

Science observes through the scientific method and cannot conclude that the universe exists from nothing, in fact science does conclude that the universe follows some patrons, some laws of physics, an intelligent design, and all that has a design, comes from a mind that designed it.

The apostle Paul describes Jesus as the Creator of the universe in his first letter to the Corinthians: “…for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.” (1 Corinthians 8:6). Also read (Colossians 1:15-20).

The Bible begins with creation in the first book, Genesis: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). Further says: “Then God said: Let Us make man into Our image, according to Our likeness…” (Genesis 1:26). In the New Testament, John Evangelist begins his Gospel: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” John 1:1). “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” (John 1:3) referring to Yahshua – Jesus. And adds: “⁹ That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. ¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. ¹¹ He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. ¹² But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: ¹³ who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. ¹⁴ And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:9-14). 2.- Is DNA the proof that Darwin’s macro evolution is impossible?

Since the development of the super computers it is possible to calculate the probabilities with numbers of factors and extraordinarily large variables, since then the law of probabilities has a practical and essential value in the present world. Mathematicians agree that with any number required that exceeds 1×10⁵⁰ has, statistically, cero probabilities of occurring. Any known species, including the unicellular bacteria, has more than 3.000.000 nucleotides, aligned in a specific sequence, which nullifies any mathematical probability for any known species of being produce by chance or fortuitous mutations as naturalism proposes. In the same way, a DNA chain with more than 84 nucleotides cannot be the result of fortuitous mutations. There are four types of nucleotides: Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine, Glycine or “ATCG or GATC”. In a fragment of DNA made by only 1.000 slabs, would have 1×10⁶⁰⁰ probabilities of being formed by chance. This number is outside our comprehension.

Wysong explains what there would have to form an average of 10⁸⁹¹⁹⁰ molecules of erroneous DNA for the opportunity of forming useful and essential DNA to codify 124 proteins. That number of molecules would weigh 10⁸⁹¹⁴⁷ times more than earth, filling the universe several times. Conclusion: it is impossible that by chance not even one single molecule of useful DNA could be formed. When evolutionists argue infinite time and matter, they make mathematical probability null and therefore the scientific method. Only an intelligent and almighty mind, in this case that of God can be the Creator, as a conclusion from probabilities who could have made the atoms, molecules and the very complicated bio molecules, like DNA, needed for life. In a determinist universe based in Newtonian concepts there are no probabilities if all the conditions are known. “God does not play dices”, said Albert Einstein.

3.- What is ID or Intelligent Design and why the Universe is ruled by laws of physics?

The following list of subjects allows us to focus on where we can find Intelligent Design around us daily: Biology: the Cell, the Eye; Genetics: DNA; Mathematical Programming: Probability; Anthropology: Man; Medicine: Microbes, Vaccines; Geology: the layers of Earth; Palaeontology: Fossils; Astronomy: Galaxies; Age of the Earth and of the Universe; Physics: Laws of Physics, and Thermodynamics; Chemistry: Carbon 14. Philosophy and Religion are the only ones that can provide theories about the cause and the purpose of the origins of live and of the universe, but the Scientific Method, in its different fields, is the one that can explain to us, making use of the obtained proves, when these are possible, how life and the universe work.

Intelligent Design exposes that all things that show evidence of design, of having been designed in an intelligent way, and that is evidence of having followed a project, a design, and therefore is a product of an intelligent mind. The universe and creation itself emanate design, laws everywhere, therefore intelligence. It is impossible not to accept reality, and therefore what is created is not by chance or comes from nothing, because it shows design everywhere. “…because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. ²⁰ For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, ²¹ because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. ²² Professing to be wise, they became fools…” (Romans 1:19). 4.- Was Creation done in 6 days of 24h?

Why dating methods like radiometric and others, disagree from thousands of years to millions of years? Carbon 14, polonium halos, etc. The theories of the young earth and the old earth oppose in this matter, but it seems that one of the latest theories, called “Gap Theory” explains that between each day of Creation there may be thousands or thousand millions of years, and that God in each day that intervenes creates the following step, is winning followers. The two first ones argue what happened in the “Cambric Explosion” a period that produced the majority of species, occurred in a too short period of time, according to the layers of sediments studied by the palaeontologists. Those of the young earth date this period after the flood and those of the old earth date it millions of years earlier. In any case this scientific evidence shows that the naturalist evolution is not viable whether we date the earth as young or as old.

However, on the other hand, the defenders of the young earth argue that dating, because of the radioactivity introduced in the atmosphere (atomic bombs and nuclear tests) in 1962, the half of radiocarbon was redefined from 5.570 to 5.730 years. The radio-dating with C-14 may get close to real dates until 2.600 B.C. (flood), but to rocks of lava of 300 years of less, it dates them between 50 million and 14.5 Billion year of age. To just dead seals between 1.300 to 4.600 years. To growing trees 10.000 years, and to shells and living molluscs 2.300 years. Truly there are serious problems with the method of radio-dating making it not trustable. But the problem is that half of the dates obtained are used by scientist as correct, the same as those used by evolutionism, the same that are taught in universities and in which the “scientific” world relies on. We should ask ourselves who old was the wine that Jesus converted from water in an instant, because the master of the feast of the Wedding of Cana, said to the bridegroom: “Every man at the beginning sets out he good wine, and when the guest have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” (John 2). A good wine is a reserve wine, and it must be at least three years, and five if it is a grand reserve, and of them at least one or one and a half in oak barrels, but that water that Jesus turned into grand reserve wine, surely the nicest of man history, it was in one second. Therefore the Almighty can make the old earth in one day, or Adam a mature man in a moment.

And in another study about the Age of the Earth the astronomer Fred Hoyle, one of the most recognized of the XX century, assured that the universe could not be so old as those of the theory of the Big Bank say, because almost all hydrogen would have converted into helium, but there is abundant hydrogen in the stars. The astronomers Kofahl, Seagraves and Verdiaman concluded that the three sources of helium of the atmosphere, and the disintegration of uranium and thorium, and the present concentration, 1.4 parts of a million, result in an Earth of 10 thousand years. (Nature 179, 26^th January, 1957, The Age of the Earth’s atmosphere, 1990). The speed of rotation of the Earth is 1.670km/h in deceleration, and the magnetic field also decays (half life 1.400 years) do not allow for an Earth of more than 7 thousand years, (Impact 16. Dr. Thomas G. Barnes, Scientific American 1989).

5.- What is the soul?

“Nephesh” in Hebrew and “Psyche” in Greek. In our days the medical, scientific, philosophical and intellectual community use the concept of mind also to refer to the soul. The composition of man, while on earth, is in two natures, the one of the spirit and the one of the flesh, which compose at the same time of three parts which are similar and are symbolically ones of the others in the Bible: (spirit, mind, soul), and (heart, brain, body) but it is in the Bible that we find the complete composition and in the order of God: “…may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless…” (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Jesus Christ – Yahshua, in the Gospels of (Matthew 22:34-40, and Mark 12:30 to 33) teaches us about the prayer known as the “Shemá” of (Deuteronomy 6:4), that we must love God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind and with all our strength.

The Biblical emphasis is in the salvation of our soul. This does not mean that salvation does not include the person entirely, spirit, soul and raised body, but that the soul inhabits the identity of the being, the person itself, and it works as the link between the spirit and the body. 6.- What is the mind?

The Greek word “Psyche” is the one that the Bible and science use. Intellectual power of the soul, we find in dictionaries. It is not the brain with its determined functions in zones and of which the functions of the body depend. The mind is to the soul what the brain is to the body. The mind is the intelligence that the soul has to understand the Gospel and to understand it needs to receive the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the soul is the capacity of the being that allows him to think, design, create, conclusively, it provides him with intelligence. But wisdom is something deeper which requires of other capacities and gifts. This is why although we all have an intelligent mind, not all act with wisdom, because we enter into the field of the moral, ethics, good and evil, and the purpose, we enter into the spiritual field which is superior.

The design of DNA which emanates from Creation, whether DNA, man, nature, the universe, comes from an intelligent mind. The Bible declares that that intelligent mind is the one of God the creator, something that science cannot argue against, because indeed the scientific method observes that design exists all around in what is created. The mind of Christ is something that the apostle Paul teaches that we Christians have for thinking like, and receiving the intelligence of Christ after having believed through faith, and having received the Holy Spirit.

However the burning debate in these times of the third decade of the XXI century A.D. in society is AI or artificial intelligence, and to what level man will be wise enough to dominate it, or it will allow to be dominated by it. Could artificial intelligence have conscience and a creative mind with an independent purpose, and will it use it against man? The matters of the Spirit of God can only be discerned with the mind of Christ and with the Holy Spirit: “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. ¹⁵ But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. ¹⁶ For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:14). 7.- What is man’s spirit?

The spirit of man is symbolically identified with the heart, with the will, with his purpose and strength in life, with that which moves and motivates him to do and be what his is from his instinct. The apostle Paul, when he was teaching about our being, talks of three components: spirit, soul and body, and the order begins with the spirit, as if it was the wheel of the being, the one that guides and of which depend both the soul and the body. Many debate if the mind is in the spirit or in the soul, and many are confused or say the spirit and the soul are the same. However the Lord Jesus teaches us about the salvation of our soul, but the one that is raised is the body, and our spirit is of God. This subject is for a deeper study about the being.

Spirit comes from the Hebrew “ruach” and from the Greek “pneuma”, breath, breathing, wind. The life of the soul and of the eternal body that God gives us by the resurrection depends of the spirit. It is the essence that defines and characterizes each human being and makes him unique before others and before God. God is Spirit, He makes us spirit, but if we believe in His Son Jesus Christ – Yahshua, His Spirit comes to duel amongst our interior making us temple of God: “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? ¹⁷ If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.” (1 Corinthians 3:16-17). The Spirit is like the wind and we have to learn to be free like Him to go with Him.

There are also other beings of that dimension called angels or spirits which come from Him. There are also spirits that are enemies of God and of us who tie and submit the souls that don’t know God, to all evil even to take them to death, physical, sentimental and spiritual. Being with God and having the Holy Spirit, we can reject these spirits in the name of Jesus Christ.

Now, as well as seeing that we have received the image and likeness of God, we must also know that when God was creating, the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters (verse 2 of Genesis 1). And, on the other hand, even thought we have our own spirit, this one needs to reach another level to understand the things of God, what the Lord Jesus was explaining to Nicodemus about how to “be born again”, something that also Paul teaches: “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. ¹⁵ But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. ¹⁶ For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:14).

8.- How will our body be after resurrection?

“It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. ⁴⁵ And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.” (1 Corinthians 15:44-46).

This Bible Text of the apostle Paul clearly reveals how is the concept of the new body with which we will be able to live in eternity. But in an amazing event that Jesus lived before, known as the Transfiguration, Jesus marked a before and after in the experience of the apostles Peter, James, and John when Jesus changed His appearance, His face shone and his clothes became white as the light, and Moses and Elijah appeared next to Him. On the other hand, we find the event of the rapture, when Jesus Christ returns in His Kingdom, at the end of times, when the believers will be raised, and after those Christians alive will be transformed and taken in the air to meet with Jesus forever. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).

“…All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of animals, another of fish, and another of birds. ⁴⁰ There are also celestial bodies and terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. ⁴¹ There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory. ⁴² So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. ⁴³ It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. ⁴⁴ It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. ⁴⁵ And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. ⁴⁶ However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. ⁴⁷ The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. ⁴⁸ As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. ⁴⁹ And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man. ⁵⁰ Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.” (1 Corinthians 15:39-50).

And Jesus provides some of the characteristics of the new body and of the new dimension when He replies to the Pharisees about who would be the husband of the woman who was married several times when they are in the Kingdom of God. 9.- What is infinite?

The concept of infinite is scientifically argued as something that has a beginning but not an end. In this way it differs from the concept of “eternity” which neither has a beginning. I would say that infinite could be applied to the person that receives salvation for eternal life because it will be raised by God and will no longer die even though it had a birth, but eternity can only be applied to God, who does not have beginning nor end of existence. Science applies infinite in areas of physics and of mathematics.

The truth is that man has a beginning but according to Jesus Christ, our life does not have an end, it is infinite as it will live after resurrection, as Jesus was telling Martha, sister of Lazarus before he raised him temporarily: “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. ²⁶ And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this? ²⁷ She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.” (John 11:25-27). Read Bible Studies about this subject at:

10.- What is eternity?

Even though we could fit the problem of eternity inside philosophy, it is science the one that should be able to measure a concept of time which has neither beginning nor end. Naturalism proposes that the universe and life have appeared by natural causes, by chance with a pre-existing matter, in other words eternal, like some postulants of materialism supported, like Aristotle. But science proves that the universe and life had a beginning. However, not even if we accepted that matter was eternal they could explain its origin, how it came to exist or who put it there, and how it could have an intelligent mind that creates with design and laws. The Bible teaches us that the only one who is eternal is God, but He does not depend on matter, but that God is Spirit (John 4:24) and the creator of matter, of the universe, of life. The Spirit who is God created matter, from eternity, and the Text (Hebrews 7:3) explains to us that Jesus Christ – Yahshua has no beginning of days neither has end of life, but He remains forever. The God of life is the origin of life, as well as they are His intelligent omniscient mind and His omnipotence. The human mind cannot conceive the concept of eternity yet and therefore it tries to find explanations to something that not even science itself can explain.

But, how will we live the eternal life, if we have a beginning? Jesus Christ has opened the door of the Kingdom of God to us through His work on the cross; through faith in Him, the repentance and the new birth from His Spirit we receive the new spiritual body in the resurrection or on the rapture, if we are alive when He returns, and that way we will always be with the Lord, in His paradise without end of life. And there is no other way to God, there is no other way to eternal life, only Jesus Christ is the Way and the Truth and the Life (John 14:6).

“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, ¹⁸ while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. CONCLUSION

It really is fascinating to study the scientific questions under the light of the Bible, and deepen into the answers of Christianity, in a truthful and honest way, being able to become like children, but knowing that the source of life is God Himself, who always teaches the truth. We have studied the scientific methods of the origins, which for a Christian who seeks the truth; it opens to him a full panorama of evidences that show to what point God has left in His Word the bases of all that He has created and how He has done it, and also how science can test as it discovers information and evidence.

Science exposes through those evidences as they become know, that there is a superior Being that with an intelligent mind and omnipotence has been able to create the universe and nature, and of making man to His image and likeness. The intelligent design of God can be observed through the laws of the universe and of physics. The DNA and so many other proves are unquestionable evidences that of a creating Being. A brief study of the soul, the mind, the raised body, the spirit, infinite and eternity have brought us close to knowing how God teaches us through science the way He has created, but it is reserved for eternal life to see it with our eyes when we are in His kingdom.
